History of NMMHCA

First known as the New Mexico Mental Health Counselors Association at inception in 1979, The New Mexico Mental Health Counselors Association is chartered state division an American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA). The name was revised in April of 1996 to Licensed Professional Counselors Association/New Mexico (LPCA/NM) before being changed back to New Mexico Mental Health Counselors Association (NMMHCA) in June 2007 as it is better suited to fit within AMHCA charter and purpose. NMMHCA has worked closely with professional associations within New Mexico and the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department (NMRDL) and the NM Counseling and Therapy Practice Board to advocate for the interests of mental health professionals, improve licensure processes, and ensure that counseling and therapy practices meet the highest standards of professionalism and care in New Mexico.
